ISLMA Abe Lincoln Progress

In case you’re keeping up, I wanted to share my progress on reading the 22 nominees for the 2013 ISLMA Abraham Lincoln award. What I really love about making my way through the list is how varied the titles are as far as genre. I’m reading books that I may not have taken off the shelf otherwise, books that I’m truly enjoying, some in which I am falling so much in love that I will undoubtedly read them again. One nominee that falls into this category is The Sky Is Everywhere, by Jandy Nelson. A beautiful, poetic love story, sprinkled with devastating loss, I did not want this book to end, and it did all too quickly because I couldn’t put it down. Click here to read my review of Jandy Nelson’s gorgeous love story along with reviews of the seven other Abes I’ve read so far. Eight down, fourteen to go.

  1. So. How do we get you on the ISLMA Abe Lincoln selection committee?

Actually, any student, teacher, or librarian that are registered participants in the award program can fill out a nomination form for a book that fits the given criteria. I could volunteer to be on the nomination committee, which would probably be a lot of fun, but I don’t know if I have to be at a school that registers for the program. We promote the books but don’t register/participate in the voting.

  2. This is awesome, Amy! I love that you are completely tackling this goal. I think you are a great model for your students and encourage reading in many different ways. I can’t wait to read your blog when you are completely finished. What an accomplishment!

Thanks Russ! I admit I it was a bit daunting to look at my Abe shelf yesterday to see that I have quite a few left to go. Crossing my fingers I can do it, just as a personal goal. Excited to do so much more with IR and the Ning this year!
